The National Archives and Records Administration has appointed Miriam Nisbet as the director of the new Office of Government Information Services. The position has dubbed by many open government advocates, the Freedom of Information Act Ombuds. Since 2007, Nisbet has headed the Information Society Division of UNESCO. As an attorney, Nisbet served as Legislative Counsel at the American Library Association from 1999 to 2007 and also worked at NARA from 1993 to 1999 where she first occupied the post of Special Assistant to the Archivist of the US and then Special Counsel for Information Policy.
