A statement from UGA President Michael Adams indicates that there may be changes in store for the campus Ombuds Office. Although he wasn't specific, Adams said that he will decide about changes to the university's sexual harassment response program -- which has included the Ombuds Office for the past three years -- this summer.
The UGA Ombuds Office was established in 2008 in response to concerns about the university's sexual harassment prevention and response practices. The new office was quickly criticized by some faculty and others because it was affiliated with the campus equal employment opportunity office and required to report sexual harassment complaints. Last month, a special committee said that a flawed Ombuds Office is not helping the campus. (Online Athens.)
