Cornell University has appointed Charles Walcott to serve as its next Ombudsman starting July 1. Walcott is the former dean of the university faculty and a professor emeritus of neurobiology and behavior. Cornell President David Skorton said. "I gained enormously from his wisdom while he was dean of the university faculty, and I am delighted that he has agreed to serve in this new and critically important university wide role."
Walcott earned his bachelor's degree from Harvard University and his PhD from Cornell. He served on the faculties of Harvard, Tufts and Stony Brook before coming to Cornell in 1981 as a full professor and director of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Walcott succeeds Walter Lynn, who passed away earlier this month. (Cornell Chronicles.)
