Kellie Harmon, University Ombuds for KU, said that her office handled 490 matters in the 16 months ended June 30, 2009 (an unusual period to accommodate a change to academic year reporting). Harmon said visitors came from 90 different university units and departments. In addition to reporting on cases and professional activities, Harmon summarized the results of an formal evaluation of her office. Last year, the University Governance office invited students, staff, and faculty who contacted the Ombuds Office to complete an on-line survey to evaluate visitors’ experiences. The results of the survey overwhelmingly indicated that individuals who contacted the office were appreciative of how they were treated by Ombuds Office staff and that they had a positive experience with the office.
