In his biennial update to the banking industry, FDIC Ombudsman Cottrell L. Webster reported that 643 bankers contacted his office requesting assistance in thesecond half of 2008. For the year as a whole, the FDIC Ombuds Office consulted with 1150 individuals, a 31% increase from the year before. In addition, FDIC Ombuds staff spoke about banking matters with 65 financial industry representatives through outreach visits, telephone calls and industry-sponsored conferences.
