At a meeting yesterday, the Staff Council at the University of Texas Austin overwhelmingly approved a "Report to the President on Grievance and Ombudsperson." The report lays out the reasons why the university needs an Ombuds for its 14,000 staff and presents five staffing options for the office, including start up and operating costs.
The report will be an excellent resource for other universities considering an Organizational Ombuds program. In addition to the specific proposals for UT, the report also provides a list of references, sample job descriptions for the Ombuds and administrative assistant, and information about Ombuds programs at peer institutions.
