Thomas Zgambo, the Ombudsman for The World Bank Group, will be a featured panelist at the Association for Conflict Resolution's annual meeting in San Diego, CA on October 12-15, 2011. At the plenary session that starts the second day of the conference, Zgambo joins other experts to discuss, "Diversity of Practice: What is the Future of
Dispute Resolution?"
As the dispute resolution field matures, it faces unprecedented and complex challenges. Dispute resolution practitioners use different approaches reflecting their sector or substantive area of practice, their own diverse identities, and a variety of theoretical, methodological, philosophical and value orientations. Last fall, ACR President Lou Gieszl, announced the creation of a Diversity of Practice Initiative to examine our heterogeneous field. Drawing from the Initiative’s informal survey of a small group of experienced practitioners in different segments of the world of ADR, this interactive panel discussion will address the many challenges and opportunities presented by efforts to find explore areas of divergence and convergence within the immensely heterogeneous work that composes dispute resolution.
