The University of California campus that overlooks Monterey Bay will cut back its Ombuds program by 60%. The move is prompted by on-going budget concerns affecting all of the UC system. According to an announcement from UCSC Human Resources:
The Office of the Ombudsman will be closed in August 2011 and will re-open in September 2011. [¶] Ombuds service hours for September 2011- June 2012 will be reduced to two days/week due to budget cuts. [¶] Specific details on the days and hours of operation for the coming academic year will be forthcoming.
Laurie McCann has been the Campus Ombuds at UCSC since 2002 and her office serves all members of the university, including 15,000 students. (UCSC Staff HR Announcement.)
