Robert John Ackermann, a retired professor of philosophy and Ombudsperson at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, passed away on October 16, 2011 after a long illness. Ackermann joined the faculty at UMass Amherst in 1968 and retired in 1999. Beginning in 1996, he also served as University Ombudsperson. A memorial service is being planned.
