Saginaw Valley State University has announced that visiting professor Burk Foster will replace Dick Thompson, who is stepping down as University Ombuds in August. Over the past three years, Foster helped develop SVSU's criminal justice program. From 1974 to 2005, he was Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Oklahoma and has worked as a civilian and Air Force police officer. He has published extensively on prison history, jail and prison policies, and the death penalty. (Valley Vanguard; Foster's Home Page.)
