Shelli Taylor and Joseph Vanable, PhD,, have been named as the Ombuds for employees of the university's Department of Biological Sciences. According to a new website for the service, the appointment came as part of the department’s strategic planning and seeks to diminish issues amongst faculty, staff and students. The new Ombuds will, "offer informal, confidential help for all employees who have an issue that they are unsure of the appropriate channels to follow."
Taylor is a secretary for the Biological Sciences. Vanable is a Professor Emeritus. He has been a liaison with the satellite campuses, convener of the teaching assistants committee, and was an associate head for three years. Purdue University, which has an Ombuds for graduate students, has considered an Ombuds for staff for several years. (Purdue Biological Sciences Ombuds.)
