The United Nations agency that leads international efforts to defeat hunger is hiring its first Ombudsman to work in its headquarters in Rome. The director-level position will informally address work-related conflicts and problems for the 3,600 FAO personnel and recommend improvements to the work environment.
The FAO Ombuds program was created pursuant to the United Nation's Reform of the Administration of Justice that started in 2005. Applicants must have advanced university degree, 10-12 years of relevant work experience, and working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and a limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese or Russian. Training or experience in ADR or as an Ombuds is preferred, as is familiarity with international organizations’ or UN Common System’s rules.
